DC Comics x VistaPrint

When we were all wearing masks during the pandemic and in the months that followed, VistaPrint launched a series of face mask collections, including a collaboration with DC Comics.

The challenge

At the time there was a certain reluctance about wearing face masks, especially in regions where they weren’t mandatory. We needed to reassure parents about the quality, fit and comfort of the masks, while appealing to the imaginations of children and adults like.

The idea

We developed a creative concept for digital display that borrowed elements from DC Comics and famous superhero phrases we knew would appeal to comic book fans. Collaborating closely with the creative director, I adapted messaging to fit the unique style of each comic.

The result

DC Comics, who are extremely protective of their brand assets, approved the creative execution with minimal changes. The DC Comics collection went on to become a VistaPrint bestseller.

ESPN homepage takeover

During autumn 2020 in the US, people were allowed to return to playing and watching live sport if they wore face masks. VistaPrint did an ESPN homepage takeover, appealing to sports fans.

At the time of creating these ads, wearing masks was still considered uncomfortable and restrictive. I wanted to reframe masks as another piece of essential sports equipment, like your pads, boots or helmet.

By taking common US sports expressions and giving them a twist, we convey the simple benefit that with covid restrictions easing, these masks let you get back to playing and watching the sports you love.
